5 reasons why you aren’t achieving your weight loss goals

Losing weight can often seem like a daunting process. It can feel like a long and drawn out process In my experience clients can sometime feel as if they are taking one step forward and two steps back. Here are some reasons why you aren’t reaching your goals

Unrealistic expectations

Often times, clients feel as if they should be losing weight faster. They are extremely disappointed when weight loss slows down after an initial good start. This is generally the fault of the media. Headlines emblazoned across magazines and online articles promise large losses in short amounts of time. This, for the majority of people, is simply not achievable. Even if weight is lost quickly, clients revert to their old way of eating. The slower the better with weight loss. This generally means you have made simple lifestyle changes that are sustainable for you.

You see the new lifestyle as temporary

There is no point in going on a “diet” to lose 10 pounds and then going right back to your old habits that made you gain weight in the first place. Fluctuating in weight can be extremely detrimental to your health. The changes that you make need to be easily maintained by you for the rest of your life. You want to keep the weight off forever, not just the summer or for your Christmas party.

Not being prepared

Clients that have a good idea what is for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the week do much better than people who arrive home hungry and start grazing on whatever food is in the house. Being prepared means you aren’t tempted by snack foods as easily It also means you are not likely to pick up a takeaway or order a pizza after a long day in work.

Eating out too often

If keeping weight off is your goal, eating out can definitely hold you back. If is very difficult to create a calorie deficit if you are eating out for more than one meal in the day. Food that is prepared out has more butter, oil cream etc added and this in turn adds extra calories. Try making sure you have lunch prepared so you aren’t tempted to eat out all week and your results will be boosted.

Self sabotage

You eat the slice of chocolate cake even though you’re “being good”. Then you think, to hell with it, and you continue the party, eating whatever you want. You swear blind that you’ll get back on the wagon by Monday. This diet mentality then leads to punishment in the form of restricting food which leads to another binge until you likely give up entirely. Cutting calories drastically, being too prescriptive in a diet plan or lack of variety tends to be the culprit here. Leaving you back where you started and only feeling frustrated and annoyed with yourself

One or all of the above behaviours can contribute to lack of results when it comes to weight loss. Here at Evolve, we aim to build a healthy lifestyle around foods you enjoy, in order to improve your overall eating patterns.
